A Little Background First

Dreams are exciting, scary and often feel out of reach. That is what makes them so special and magical when you realize they are starting to become reality. I mentioned before that I have dreamed of writing a children’s book for over 10 years now. A whole decade of dreaming but no action. So what changed?

January, New Year, New Me

Not really! We had a rough, rough year last year. It was full of health issues, surgeries and death for our closest loved ones. We lost my in-laws who were just the best and treated me like their own. The loss of them is felt every day. My momma thankfully is still with us and doing much better. This past year and the beginning of a new year prompted action. Life is short and precious. I didn’t want another year to pass without chasing this dream. No one wants to look back at the end and wish they had at least tried. So, here I am just trying to make it happen.

Glenda & Lonnie Kirby, the BEST in-laws!

Feeling Clueless & Stalled

It’s one thing to have a dream and whole other thing to know how to get there. This led me to purchasing the Children’s Book Mastermind class in January. I had this moment when I just knew I had to act right now or it would be another 10 years passing. Half of the modules were about writing my book. The other half were about publishing it. I love a good road map or rule book for guidance. Woo-hoo!!! I was no longer clueless or stalled.

Finally, The Day Before

Lisa and I over Spring Break when the “talk” happened

It might seem like it was smooth sailing and I was chomping at the bit to sit down and write my story. Wrong-o, I was somewhat avoiding it like the plague. This is when you need your childhood best friend because they know you inside and out. All it took was Lisa asking how my story was coming along to open up the flood gates of doubt, fear and uncertainty. She listened and then told me that I just needed to write it. It was my story and I could use kids or animals for my characters, it was up to me. I’m not sure why that was so freeing and reassuring to me, but it worked. The very next day, I started writing Tooth on the Loose with Pig as the main character. I am so excited to share it with all of you!
